Sprouting Melodies
Sprouting Melodies™ is a developmentally based music program for young children, from newborn to three years of age. Created by a Board Certified Music Therapist, these groups use music as a way for young children and their caregivers to explore, play, and grow. Using songs, instruments, and movement, the children will interact in ways that encourage musical, social, physical, and emotional growth and learning. Class sizes will be limited to enhance each child’s participation and development.
What makes Sprouting Melodies different?
All Sprouting Melodies classes are age specific.
Sprouting Melodies™ is a music program that is specially designed to meet the needs of babies and toddlers and their parents or caregivers as they grow. Babies who are 6 months old have very different developmental needs, different responses to music, and different relationships with their parents or caregivers than a two year old and their unique needs are better met in a small group with children their own developmental age.
Sprouting Melodies groups are not dictated by an outside organization.
There is no script to follow or certain rules that need to be applied to each session. Each group is different and in Sprouting Melodies™, the music therapist is able to make individual decisions about what songs and activities will be most helpful to the individuals in the group at a given time.
All Sprouting Melodies classes are led by a Board Certified Music Therapist.
Board Certified Music Therapists, MT-BC’s, are specially trained to use music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Board Certified Music Therapists must complete an approved university academic program and clinical training program to sit for the written board exam administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Music Therapists must be recertified every five years by obtaining continuing education credits or taking the written exam to demonstrate current competencies.
As Board Certified Music Therapists, we have extensive training and clinical experience which has given us the knowledge and skills to create and lead musical experiences which will meet each child’s needs and move the group forward in each week’s session. We also have the clinical training and judgement to modify class plans and activities to best meet the individual and group needs of a particular group.
Who should attend Sprouting Melodies?

What happens in a Sprouting Melodies group?
Sprouting Melodies™ groups provide a structured routine of music activities including instrument play, movement, and singing which address communicative, social, emotional and behavioral areas of development. Parents participate with their children throughout the session. The music groups involve a lot of active music making and will give parents and caregivers many ideas for songs and music activities that can be repeated at home. Come ready to play!
Where are the Sprouting Melodies classes held?
Classes will be held at the Roman Music Therapy Services office on 423 Main St., Melrose, MA, above Cold Rush. There is stroller parking available outside the building.
