Roman Music Therapy Services now offers afterschool music therapy groups for children, teens and young adults in Malden, Reading, Burlington and Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Not sure which group is best for you, please call us at 781-665-0700 and we will help you find the most appropriate group for your child.

Music Therapy Talks (ages 5-13): Come sing along with new friends in this music therapy group which focuses on language and communication skills. Designed for children with emerging and developing verbal skills
Wednesdays 4:45 – 5:30 p.m.

Middle School Music Therapy (ages 11-15): Do you love listening music? Want to learn how to play some instruments and even make your own songs? Then our Middle School Music Therapy Group is perfect for you! You will have a great time jamming and meeting new people who share your passion for music. We will listen to our favorite tunes, record new songs, and have a great time rocking out! Important life skills such as group cooperation, effective communication, improvisation skills, self-expression, self-confidence will also be addressed. Participants will be able to make new friends and develop their love for music. Parent participation is required for this session; we may be able to phase this out as the group forms!
Wednesdays 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.

Music Therapy for Kids who are Non-Verbal (ages 5-13): Let’s make some music! Music making and instrument play is a fun and natural way to communicate. Using instruments, our bodies and our voices, we will create music as a group to support the development of verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Goals for the group will include increasing communication skills, imitating sounds, choice making and successful participation in a group activity. Parent Participation is required – This is not a drop off program.

Young Adult Music Therapy Group (ages 22-35): Do you like making music? Listening to your favorite bands? Talking with others about music? Come see what music therapy is all about! In this group, participants will work together to determine the direction and goals for the group. Sessions may include making music with a variety of instruments, writing new songs, or listening to our favorite music. We can even make our own CD! Come and bring a friend! Group will be led by Kristina Barbo, MT-BC. Participants are responsible for their own transportation home.
Thursdays 2:45 – 3:30 p.m.

Reading Music Therapy (Ages 3-7) : Are you ready to make some music? We will use the fun and motivation of music to address the social, behavioral and sensory goals of participants. Children will be singing, playing a variety of instruments and moving to the music as they engage in supportive and therapeutic music making. Goals may include increasing communication skills, turn taking, joint attention and learning songs that can carry-over into the home. Parent attendance is required – This is not a drop off program. Group will be led by Kristina Barbo, MT-BC.
Thursdays 3:45 – 4:30 p.m.

Multi-Sensory Music Therapy 8-14 years old w/multiple disabilities (Ages 8-14) : Music is our language! This music therapy group provides an opportunity for non-verbal children who have physical disabilities to participate in a supportive and therapeutic group activity. Group members will be encouraged to communicate and participate using multi-sensory systems that work best for them, including switches, eye gaze and touch. Goals for this group will include choice making, supported instrument play, vocal responses to music, and increased awareness of self and others. Please bring any adaptive communication devices your child uses so they can be incorporated into the music making! Group led by Kristina Barbo, MT-BC. Parent attendance is required – This is not a drop off program.
Thursdays 4:45-5:30 p.m.

Teen Social Skills Music Therapy (Ages 14-21) : Want to jam with your friends and make some new ones? This group is designed specifically for teens with advanced verbal skills to learn, develop, and practice social skills though shared musical experiences. We’ll use a variety of therapeutic music activities including instrument play and songwriting to address social and communication skills. Join us to meet some new friends and to have fun conversations in music! Group will be led by Kristina Barbo, MT-BC.
Thursdays 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.

Music Therapy (Ages 3-12, two groups available): LifeLinks Family Support will be offering music therapy groups for children with special needs and their families!
A Board Certified Music Therapist from Roman Music Therapy Services will be conducting music therapy groups on Mondays in the fall for children ages 3-12 years old. Siblings are welcome to attend these classes as well! Parents are required to stay. The classes will use the fun and motivation of music to address social, behavioral, and sensory goals.
Children will be singing, playing a variety of instruments, and moving to the music!
Ages 3-7 Mondays 3:45-4:30 p.m.
Ages 7-12 Mondays 4:45-5:30 p.m.
